Singles Challenge Ladder

Rules

  • All matches will be the best 2 out of 3 sets with a 10 point match breaker for the third set.
  • Players may challenge up to and including 5 “positions” ahead of their current position.
  • If the challenger wins he takes that position, the loser moves down one position and the players in between move down one. If the challenger loses then he goes back to his spot on the ladder.
  • No matches may be recorded on the board as an official challenge until the challenger has spoken with the challengee.
  • Once a challenge has been issued there must be a winner and loser, except in the case of a rain-out.

Winners of a match will be granted 24 hours of immunity during which time they do not have to accept a new challenge. They may accept a challenge during this time if they wish. They may issue a new challenge as well.

Winners are also responsible for recording match results and adjusting the board or asking desk personnel to do it for them.

Losers may not issue a new challenge for 24 hours, must accept challenges during that time.

Challengers Responsibilities

  • Offer the challengee 2 days and times for the match. These times must occur within 1 week from the day of the challenge. If players can arrive at another time within the week that is still acceptable.
  • Reserve the court for the match. Normal court reservation policy remains in effect for ladder matches.
  • Record the challenge on the ladder board at the club or call and have the desk person record it for you.
  • Provide a new can of balls for the match.

Challengees Responsibilities

  • Accept any legitimate challenge without stalling or forfeit the match. If players follow this rule the ladder will move along quickly and will not bog down. You will have ample opportunities to re-challenge someone you have hopes of playing.

Rain-outs may be rescheduled in the same manner as a normal challenge but must be done on the day of the rain-out. If not rescheduled cards will return to their spot on the ladder as if no challenge had been issued.

New Players get 1 free challenge anywhere on the ladder. If they lose then they must start at the bottom.

** Last Two Weeks (July 16 – 29) will be forced challenges starting from the top, 1 vs 2, 3 vs 4 and so on. The second week will be a similar format pitting different opponents to finish out the season.

** Denotes new rule
